The Bolivian dry vegetable market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2022, after three years of decline. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible curtailment. In 2022, overseas shipments of dry vegetables decreased by -36.3% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dry vegetable exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a slight expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 261% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Argentina (X tons) was the main destination for dry vegetable exports from Bolivia, with a 91% share of total exports. Moreover, dry vegetable exports to Argentina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Argentina amounted to -4.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-2.3% per year) and Spain (-11.6% per year).
In value terms, Argentina ($X), the United States ($X) and Spain ($X) were the largest markets for dry vegetable exported from Bolivia worldwide.
The United States, with a CAGR of +3.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Export Prices by Country
The average dry vegetable export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 17% against the previous year. In general, the export price enjoyed resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 70% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Argentina (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bolivia
In 2022, purchases abroad of dry vegetables increased by 27% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after five years of decline. Overall, imports, however, saw a precipitous descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 145%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, dry vegetable imports declined to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 35%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest dry vegetable supplier to Bolivia, accounting for a 43% share of total imports. Moreover, dry vegetable imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Switzerland (X tons), with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States totaled -5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-7.5% per year) and Switzerland (+17.4% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dry vegetables to Bolivia, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Switzerland ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States amounted to +10.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Switzerland (+17.2% per year) and China (-7.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average dry vegetable import price amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -26.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 231%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Mexico ($X per ton) and India ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+44.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
