In 2021, the Brazilian antisera market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a perceptible descent. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

For the fourth year in a row, Brazil recorded growth in overseas shipments of antisera and other blood fractions, which increased by 48% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 245% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, antisera exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 86%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
France (X tons) was the main destination for antisera exports from Brazil, with a 42% share of total exports. Moreover, antisera exports to France exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X tons), with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to France amounted to +181.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+57.1% per year) and Germany (+229.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for antisera exported from Brazil were Germany ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X), with a combined 63% share of total exports. Hong Kong SAR, Russia, Chile, Paraguay and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Russia, with a CAGR of +350.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average antisera export price amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 122% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+27.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Antisera Imports
Imports into Brazil
In 2021, supplies from abroad of antisera and other blood fractions increased by 4.9% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +87.0% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 76% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, antisera imports contracted to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United States (X tons), China (X tons) and South Korea (X tons) were the main suppliers of antisera imports to Brazil, together comprising 66% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +33.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest antisera suppliers to Brazil were Switzerland ($X), Germany ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 55% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Ireland, South Korea, Italy, China, Austria, France, Spain, the UK and Argentina, which together accounted for a further 36%.
China, with a CAGR of +26.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average antisera import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -11.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 18%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for Argentina ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+8.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
