After two years of growth, the Brazilian avocado market decreased by -2.8% to $X in 2022. In general, consumption, however, showed strong growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

Argentina (X tons) was the main destination for avocado exports from Brazil, with a 42% share of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 13% share.

In value terms, Argentina ($X) remains the key foreign market for avocados exports from Brazil, comprising 47% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Argentina amounted to +65.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+26.3% per year) and the Netherlands (-8.2% per year).

The average avocado export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -9.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, overseas purchases of avocados increased by 65% to X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 766%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Chile (X tons) and Peru (X tons) were the main suppliers of avocado imports to Brazil.

From 2013 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +75.3%).
