Banana Market Size in Brazil

The Brazilian banana market reduced slightly to $X in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. In general, consumption recorded a mild slump. Banana consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, banana production fell slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production continues to indicate a pronounced slump. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, banana exports totaled $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 76%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Argentina (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and the UK (X tons) were the main destinations of banana exports from Brazil, with a combined 93% share of total exports.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Argentina (+5.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil

Banana imports into Brazil dropped to X tons in 2022, waning by -13.9% compared with the year before. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 221%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, banana imports shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 235% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

The Philippines (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) were the main suppliers of banana imports to Brazil.
