Argentina (X tons) was the main destination for plastic bottle exports from Brazil, with a 54% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was held by Colombia (X tons), with a 6.6% share.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Argentina stood at +51.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (+38.1% per year) and Mexico (+35.2% per year).

Based on 2022 figures, plastic bottle export price increased by +46.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 39%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In value terms, plastic bottle imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a significant increase from 2020 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +34.9% over the last two-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +82.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 52%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Uruguay (X tons) constituted the largest plastic bottle supplier to Brazil, accounting for a 73% share of total imports. Moreover, plastic bottle imports from Uruguay exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Paraguay (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Argentina (X tons), with a 2.3% share.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Uruguay totaled +56.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Paraguay (-27.9% per year) and Argentina (-24.3% per year).

In value terms, Uruguay ($X) constituted the largest supplier of carboys, bottles and similar articles of plastics to Brazil, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Paraguay ($X), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 4.4% share.

From 2020 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Uruguay stood at +91.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Paraguay (-15.3% per year) and China (+22.5% per year).

The average plastic bottle import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 22% against the previous year. Over the period from 2020 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +19.5%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
