The average yield of cashew nuts in Brazil fell modestly to X kg per ha in 2021, approximately equating 2020 figures. In general, the yield, however, saw a strong increase. Cashew nut exports from Brazil soared to X tons in 2021, rising by 375% compared with 2020 figures. In general, exports showed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 1,343% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, cashew nut exports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 812% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Vietnam (X tons) was the main destination for cashew nut exports from Brazil, with a 82% share of total exports. Moreover, cashew nut exports to Vietnam exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), ninefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by South Africa (X tons), with a 4.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Vietnam was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (-12.0% per year) and South Africa (+25.8% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for cashew nut exports from Brazil, comprising 79% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Vietnam ($X), with a 7.9% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 6.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at -9.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Vietnam (0.0% per year) and China (+210.6% per year).

In 2021, the average cashew nut export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -78.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a abrupt contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 94% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cashew nut imports amounted to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a dramatic decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 180% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Cote d'Ivoire (X tons) was the main cashew nut supplier to Brazil, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by Ghana (X tons), with a 2.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Cote d'Ivoire stood at -22.9%.

In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cashew nut to Brazil, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 23% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Cote d'Ivoire amounted to -28.5%.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average cashew nut import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 51% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average import price increased by 60%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
