In value terms, other cereals production reduced dramatically to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, continues to indicate a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the production volume increased by 596% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, production growth remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, the average yield of other cerealses in Brazil rose modestly to X tons per ha, growing by 1.8% against 2020. Overall, the yield recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, other cereals exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a sharp setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 1,416%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Argentina (X tons) was the main destination for other cereals exports from Brazil, accounting for a 64% share of total exports. Moreover, other cereals exports to Argentina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Paraguay (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Argentina was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (+29.9% per year) and Marshall Islands (+144.7% per year).

The average other cereals export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 141% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 862% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Imports into Brazil

In 2021, overseas purchases of other cerealses decreased by -16% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. In general, total imports indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -36.4% against 2018 indices. In 2021, Peru (X tons) was the main other cereals supplier to Brazil, with a 94% share of total imports. Moreover, other cereals imports from Peru exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Bolivia (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Peru stood at +17.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Bolivia (-23.1% per year) and the United States (+2.0% per year).
