The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +26.3% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 21% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, cheese and curd exports reached $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Chile (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the main destinations of cheese and curd exports from Brazil, together accounting for 52% of total exports. Russia, Paraguay, Taiwan (Chinese), Cuba and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Cuba (with a CAGR of +94.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for cheese and curd exported from Brazil were Chile ($X), the United States ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a combined 50% share of total exports. Russia, Argentina, Paraguay, Cuba and Angola lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.
Cuba, with a CAGR of +126.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average cheese and curd export price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 16% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Cuba ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Cuba (+16.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil
In 2022, purchases abroad of cheese and curd increased by 3.9% to X tons, rising for the third consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +17.9% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 100% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cheese and curd imports surged to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +38.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Argentina (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cheese and curd to Brazil, with a 79% share of total imports. Moreover, cheese and curd imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Uruguay (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 1.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Argentina totaled +2.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uruguay (+1.2% per year) and the Netherlands (-6.1% per year).
In value terms, Argentina ($X) constituted the largest supplier of cheese and curd to Brazil, comprising 77% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uruguay ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the Netherlands, with a 3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Argentina stood at +3.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uruguay (-1.0% per year) and the Netherlands (-6.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average cheese and curd import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 15% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 25%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for Uruguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
