Portugal (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.6% share.

In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres exports from Brazil, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Algeria ($X), with an 8.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to China stood at +7.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Algeria (+6.4% per year) and Portugal (-0.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the average export price for coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres amounted to $X per ton, rising by 1.8% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 36% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were India ($X per ton) and Egypt ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($X per ton) and Algeria ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil

After four years of growth, purchases abroad of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres decreased by -37.8% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 3,579%. Over the period under review, imports of attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres fell dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 4,693%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X tons) was the main supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibre to Brazil, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. Moreover, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sri Lanka (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from India stood at +311.5%.

In value terms, India ($X) constituted the largest supplier of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres to Brazil, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sri Lanka ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports.
