Date Market Size in Brazil

The Brazilian date market skyrocketed to $X in 2022, rising by 15% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption recorded a prominent increase. Date consumption peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In 2022, exports of dates from Brazil plummeted to X tons, falling by -77.6% against the previous year. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 217%. Imports into Brazil

Date imports into Brazil surged to X tons in 2022, growing by 29% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 89% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, date imports rose notably to $X in 2022. In general, imports posted a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 110%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Tunisia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of date to Brazil, accounting for a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, date imports from Tunisia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X tons), more than tenfold.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Tunisia totaled +6.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+22.6% per year) and Egypt (0.0% per year).

In value terms, Tunisia ($X) constituted the largest supplier of dates to Brazil, comprising 88% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 9.1% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Tunisia amounted to +6.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+24.1% per year) and Egypt (0.0% per year).

In 2022, the average date import price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -12.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
