Electronic Chip Market Size in Brazil

The Brazilian electronic chip market was finally on the rise to reach $X in 2021, after two years of decline. Over the period under review, the total consumption indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Electronic chip consumption peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, electronic chip production totaled $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Electronic chip production peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, exports of electronic chips from Brazil reduced markedly to X units, declining by -33% on 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, posted a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 128%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, electronic chip exports declined slightly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 64%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The United States (X units) was the main destination for electronic chip exports from Brazil, accounting for a 39% share of total exports. Moreover, electronic chip exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Hong Kong SAR (X units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Vietnam (X units), with a 6.7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States stood at +6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+6.9% per year) and Vietnam (+34.5% per year).

In value terms, Vietnam ($X) remains the key foreign market for electronic chips exports from Brazil, comprising 40% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 7.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Vietnam totaled +45.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+2.8% per year) and China (-3.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average electronic chip export price stood at $X per unit in 2021, surging by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, electronic chip export price decreased by -30.6% against 2018 indices. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Panama (less than $X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil

After three years of decline, supplies from abroad of electronic chips increased by 8.1% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, electronic chip imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 48%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of electronic chip to Brazil, with a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, electronic chip imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Taiwan (Chinese) (X units), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Malaysia (X units), with an 8.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at -2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Taiwan (Chinese) (-8.5% per year) and Malaysia (-8.0% per year).

In value terms, the largest electronic chip suppliers to Brazil were China ($X), South Korea ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), with a combined 68% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, the United States, Thailand, Hong Kong SAR, the Philippines, Mexico and Costa Rica, which together accounted for a further 30%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +43.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average electronic chip import price amounted to $X per unit, rising by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average import price increased by 24%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while the price for Mexico ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+27.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
