South Korea (X litres), the Netherlands (X litres) and the United States (X litres) were the main destinations of ethanol exports from Brazil, with a combined 79% share of total exports. The UK, Japan, Nigeria, the Philippines, Ghana and Jamaica lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the UK (with a CAGR of +135.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and the United States ($X) were the largest markets for ethanol exported from Brazil worldwide, with a combined 79% share of total exports. The UK, Japan, Nigeria, Ghana, the Philippines and Jamaica lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the UK, with a CAGR of +128.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average ethanol export price amounted to $X per litre, surging by 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Jamaica ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Nigeria ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jamaica (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil
In 2022, supplies from abroad of ethyl alcohol decreased by -26.9% to X litres, falling for the fifth year in a row after four years of growth. In general, imports saw a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 130%. Imports peaked at X litres in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ethanol imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, imports faced a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 113% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of ethanol to Brazil, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, ethanol imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Paraguay (X litres), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States amounted to -15.0%.
In value terms, the largest ethanol suppliers to Brazil were the United States ($X) and Paraguay ($X).
Paraguay, with a CAGR of +41.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review.
