In 2021, overseas shipments of fructose and fructose syrup increased by 50% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 248% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fructose exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 124%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for fructose exports from Brazil, accounting for a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, fructose exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Argentina (X tons), threefold. Chile (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to -2.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Argentina (+1.7% per year) and Chile (+18.3% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for fructose exported from Brazil were the United States ($X), Argentina ($X) and Chile ($X), together accounting for 73% of total exports. The Dominican Republic, Paraguay, Bolivia, South Africa and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Bolivia, with a CAGR of +56.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average fructose export price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 2.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 108%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Dominican Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Africa (+0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Brazil
In 2021, approx. X tons of fructose and fructose syrup were imported into Brazil; declining by -11.6% against the year before. Overall, imports recorded a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, fructose imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X tons), Turkey (X tons) and Israel (X tons) were the main suppliers of fructose imports to Brazil, together accounting for 61% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +238.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest fructose suppliers to Brazil were Chile ($X), the United States ($X) and Indonesia ($X), with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Israel, Turkey, South Africa, Mexico, China and Argentina, which together accounted for a further 42%.

In 2021, the average fructose import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 31% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+13.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
