The Brazilian hazelnut market fell remarkably to $X in 2021, waning by -22.7% against the previous year. Hong Kong SAR (X kg), Ireland (X kg) and Liberia (X kg) were the main destinations of hazelnut exports from Brazil, together comprising 58% of total exports.

The average hazelnut export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 69% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated resilient growth from 2018 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Liberia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2018 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of hazelnuts decreased by -23.2% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, hazelnut imports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 36%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

The United States (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of hazelnut imports to Brazil, together comprising 78% of total imports. These countries were followed by Georgia and Turkey, which together accounted for a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Georgia (with a CAGR of -5.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of hazelnut to Brazil, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Chile ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 14% share.
