Honey Market Size in Brazil
In 2022, the Brazilian honey market increased by 101% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, saw a noticeable decrease. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

After six years of growth, overseas shipments of honey decreased by -21.8% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 56% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then dropped notably in the following year.
In value terms, honey exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for honey exports from Brazil, with a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, honey exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Canada (X tons), with a 7.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to +9.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+2.2% per year) and Canada (+21.5% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for honey exports from Brazil, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 9.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with an 8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +11.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+4.0% per year) and Canada (+23.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average honey export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, honey export price increased by +73.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 61% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to Canada ($X per ton) and Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Honey Imports
Imports into Brazil
For the fourth consecutive year, Brazil recorded decline in supplies from abroad of honey, which decreased by -99.6% to X kg in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a precipitous descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 37,115% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, honey imports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a precipitous curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 19,461% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Italy (X kg) was the main supplier of honey to Brazil, with a approx. 100% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Italy totaled -42.0%.
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of honey to Brazil.

From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Italy.
