In 2021, the Brazilian inulin market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, after seven years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of inulin, when their volume decreased by -47.2% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 1,504% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then shrank dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, inulin exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 985%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany (X tons) was the main destination for inulin exports from Brazil, accounting for a 100% share of total exports. It was followed by the Netherlands (X kg), with a 0.1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany amounted to +54.8%.
In value terms, Germany ($X) also remains the key foreign market for inulin exports from Brazil.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Germany amounted to -11.0%.
Export Prices by Country
The average inulin export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -37.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 a decrease of -32.4%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-11.8%).

Imports into Brazil
In 2021, overseas purchases of inulin decreased by -4.7% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, total imports indicated a resilient expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -14.0% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, inulin imports rose modestly to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Chile (X tons) was the main supplier of inulin to Brazil, with a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, inulin imports from Chile exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Chile totaled +7.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-4.4% per year) and Belgium (-5.5% per year).
In value terms, Chile ($X) constituted the largest supplier of inulin to Brazil, comprising 89% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with a 6.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Chile totaled +5.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (-2.1% per year) and Belgium (-9.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average inulin import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 12%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
