Metal Chain Market Size in Brazil

The Brazilian metal chain market declined modestly to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -2.5% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In general, consumption, however, showed a pronounced expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Brazil

In 2022, shipments abroad of iron or steel chain decreased by -7.8% to X tons, falling for the third year in a row after four years of growth. Overall, exports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 548% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, metal chain exports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 228% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Paraguay (X tons), Bolivia (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) were the main destinations of metal chain exports from Brazil, with a combined 54% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Guatemala (with a CAGR of +410.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Paraguay ($X) remains the key foreign market for iron or steel chain exports from Brazil, comprising 29% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Peru, with a 9.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Paraguay stood at +7.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Korea (-7.8% per year) and Peru (+98.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average metal chain export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a perceptible curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 123% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guatemala (+17.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of iron or steel chain, when their volume decreased by -13.8% to X tons. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 107%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal chain imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +92.9% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 82% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Japan (X tons) were the main suppliers of metal chain imports to Brazil, with a combined 89% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Japan (with a CAGR of +44.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest metal chain suppliers to Brazil were China ($X), South Africa ($X) and Japan ($X), together comprising 70% of total imports.

Among the main suppliers, Japan, with a CAGR of +28.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the average metal chain import price amounted to $X per ton, jumping by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 66% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+9.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
