In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of lead ores, when their volume increased by 36% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, lead ore exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China (X tons) was the main destination for lead ore exports from Brazil, accounting for a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, lead ore exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Japan (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to China totaled +2.8%.
In value terms, China ($X) remains the key foreign market for lead ore exports from Brazil, comprising 91% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($X), with a 9.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to China totaled +22.0%.
Export Prices by Country
The average lead ore export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 50% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 60% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to China stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+18.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Lead Ore Imports
Imports into Brazil
In 2021, purchases abroad of lead ores was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 100% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, lead ore imports amounted to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated slight growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -7.2% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 99% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Bolivia (X tons) constituted the largest lead ore supplier to Brazil, with a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, lead ore imports from Bolivia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X tons), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Bolivia totaled +12.2%.
In value terms, Bolivia ($X) and the United States ($X) appeared to be the largest lead ore suppliers to Brazil.
The United States, with a CAGR of +102.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
The average lead ore import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with a decrease of -27.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 75%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped significantly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Bolivia stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Bolivia (+8.3%).
