Malt Market Size in Brazil

In 2022, after four years of growth, there was decline in the Brazilian malt market, when its value decreased by less than 0.1% to $X. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, leveling off in the following year.

Malt Production in Brazil

Imports into Brazil

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of malt decreased by -17.4% to X tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then dropped significantly in the following year.

In value terms, malt imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +64.2% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 53%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell modestly in the following year.

Argentina (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of malt imports to Brazil, together accounting for 77% of total imports. Sweden, Australia, Germany, Russia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 18%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Australia (with a CAGR of +58.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest malt suppliers to Brazil were Argentina ($X), Uruguay ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 79% share of total imports. Sweden, Australia, Germany, Russia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

Among the main suppliers, Australia, with a CAGR of +61.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average malt import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Uruguay ($X per ton) and Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
