The average MDF export price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, increasing by 29% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a slight contraction. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to China ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Peru (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil

In 2021, the amount of MDF imported into Brazil surged to X cubic meters, growing by 135% on 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, saw a precipitous contraction. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, MDF imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, faced a dramatic curtailment. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Argentina (X cubic meters) constituted the largest MDF supplier to Brazil, accounting for a 27% share of total imports. Moreover, MDF imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Spain (X cubic meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by China (X cubic meters), with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Argentina amounted to -34.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+18.3% per year) and China (-31.4% per year).

In value terms, Spain ($X), China ($X) and Argentina ($X) were the largest MDF suppliers to Brazil, together comprising 49% of total imports.

Spain, with a CAGR of +15.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average MDF import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, dropping by -15.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 59%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Uruguay ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
