In 2021, motor vehicle engine exports from Brazil expanded remarkably to X tons, increasing by 6.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, motor vehicle engine exports fell to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 77% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Argentina (X tons) was the main destination for motor vehicle engine exports from Brazil, with a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, motor vehicle engine exports to Argentina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X tons), threefold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Argentina amounted to -6.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mexico (-9.4% per year) and Italy (+110.0% per year).
In value terms, Argentina ($X), Mexico ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest markets for motor vehicle engine exported from Brazil worldwide, together accounting for 74% of total exports. These countries were followed by Poland, Colombia, Turkey and Germany, which together accounted for a further 26%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +1,231.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average motor vehicle engine export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -15.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the average export price increased by 40%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+49.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil
In 2021, the amount of motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition) imported into Brazil soared to X tons, jumping by 16% on 2020. In general, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -23.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 73%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, motor vehicle engine imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 61%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of motor vehicle engine to Brazil, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, motor vehicle engine imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Korea stood at +14.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+8.6% per year) and Japan (+8.5% per year).
In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of motor vehicle engines (spark-ignition) to Brazil, comprising 38% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 14% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from South Korea stood at +10.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+9.5% per year) and Japan (+6.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average motor vehicle engine import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately equating the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 5.4% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the price for South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
