Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, motor vehicle engine exports fell to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 77% against the previous year. Argentina (X tons) was the main destination for motor vehicle engine exports from Brazil, with a 44% share of total exports. Moreover, motor vehicle engine exports to Argentina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (X tons), threefold. Italy (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 15% share.

In general, total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -23.5% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 73%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, motor vehicle engine imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 61%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, South Korea (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of motor vehicle engine to Brazil, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, motor vehicle engine imports from South Korea exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. Japan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from South Korea stood at +14.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+8.6% per year) and Japan (+8.5% per year).
