Paraguay (X tons), Chile (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) were the main destinations of newsprint exports from Brazil, with a combined 63% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Chile (with a CAGR of +292.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Venezuela ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+27.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil
For the fourth consecutive year, Brazil recorded decline in overseas purchases of newsprint, which decreased by -15% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports recorded a sharp setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 7.1% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, newsprint imports rose significantly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports faced a sharp curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Canada (X tons) constituted the largest newsprint supplier to Brazil, with a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, newsprint imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Sweden (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the United States (X tons), with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Canada amounted to -24.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Sweden (-12.8% per year) and the United States (-25.2% per year).
In value terms, Canada ($X) constituted the largest supplier of newsprint to Brazil, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with an 8.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Sweden, with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Canada totaled -23.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (-15.9% per year) and Sweden (-10.7% per year).

In 2022, the average newsprint import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 34% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
