The Brazilian soft drink market contracted to $X in 2021, waning by -5.6% against the previous year. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Soft drink consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Exports from Brazil
For the fourth consecutive year, Brazil recorded growth in shipments abroad of soft drinks, which increased by 26% to X litres in 2021. In general, total exports indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +116.4% against 2012 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, soft drink exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +105.7% against 2017 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Paraguay (X litres) was the main destination for soft drink exports from Brazil, with a 47% share of total exports. Moreover, soft drink exports to Paraguay exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X litres), twofold. Chile (X litres) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Paraguay amounted to +10.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+10.5% per year) and Chile (+44.9% per year).
In value terms, Paraguay ($X), the United States ($X) and Chile ($X) constituted the largest markets for soft drink exported from Brazil worldwide, together comprising 69% of total exports. These countries were followed by Bolivia, Venezuela, Japan and Guyana, which together accounted for a further 13%.
Among the main countries of destination, Venezuela, with a CAGR of +62.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soft drink export price amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 21% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild slump. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Paraguay ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bolivia (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Brazil
In 2021, imports of soft drinks into Brazil soared to X litres, growing by 17% compared with the year before. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 41%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, soft drink imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw prominent growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Austria (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of soft drink to Brazil, with a 87% share of total imports. Moreover, soft drink imports from Austria exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Switzerland (X litres), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Austria was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Switzerland (-4.8% per year) and Spain (+54.9% per year).
In value terms, Austria ($X) constituted the largest supplier of soft drink to Brazil, comprising 87% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Switzerland ($X), with an 8% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Austria stood at +5.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Switzerland (+0.1% per year) and Spain (+39.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average soft drink import price amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, soft drink import price decreased by -9.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 71%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per litre. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per litre), while the price for Spain ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
