In 2021, overseas purchases of phosphates of mono- or di-sodium decreased by -31.4% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 89%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, sodium phosphates imports declined rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed a buoyant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 63% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

China (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of sodium phosphates imports to Brazil, together accounting for 94% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +48.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
