In 2022, overseas shipments of rare gases (excluding argon) increased by 8.7% to X cubic meters, rising for the second consecutive year after three years of decline. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 132%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, rare gases exports soared to $X in 2022. Overall, exports enjoyed a noticeable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 116%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X cubic meters) was the main destination for rare gases exports from Brazil, with a 49% share of total exports. Moreover, rare gases exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uruguay (X cubic meters), threefold. Paraguay (X cubic meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 9.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to -11.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uruguay (+45.6% per year) and Paraguay (+24.5% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for rare gases (excluding argon) exports from Brazil, comprising 41% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Argentina ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Paraguay, with an 8.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to -5.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Argentina (+151.7% per year) and Paraguay (+23.7% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average rare gases export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, picking up by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, rare gases export price increased by +124.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 43% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Uruguay ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Qatar (+66.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Brazil
In 2022, purchases abroad of rare gases (excluding argon) increased by 3.6% to X cubic meters, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 5.9% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, rare gases imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +35.6% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 24%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2022, the United States (X cubic meters) constituted the largest supplier of rare gases to Brazil, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, rare gases imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Qatar (X cubic meters), twofold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States totaled -7.9%.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of rare gases (excluding argon) to Brazil, comprising 86% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Qatar ($X), with a 7.1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States stood at +3.8%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average rare gases import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, shrinking by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw buoyant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 54%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per cubic meter. From 2021 to 2022, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Qatar totaled $X per cubic meter.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+12.8%).
