In 2021, shipments abroad of reclaimed rubber increased by 113% to X tons, rising for the fourth year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports posted a strong expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country
Portugal (X tons) was the main destination for reclaimed rubber exports from Brazil, accounting for a 46% share of total exports. Moreover, reclaimed rubber exports to Portugal exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Argentina (X tons), threefold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Portugal was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Argentina (-8.0% per year) and the UK (+54.6% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for reclaimed rubber exported from Brazil were Portugal ($X), Argentina ($X) and the UK ($X), together comprising 66% of total exports. Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay, Belgium and Chile lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.
Among the main countries of destination, Paraguay, with a CAGR of +262.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average reclaimed rubber export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -8.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 14%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2016 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Chile ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Peru (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Reclaimed Rubber Imports
Imports into Brazil
In 2021, overseas purchases of reclaimed rubber increased by 32% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, reclaimed rubber imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of reclaimed rubber to Brazil, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, reclaimed rubber imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. Saint Lucia (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled -1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+0.1% per year) and Saint Lucia (+34.8% per year).
In value terms, the largest reclaimed rubber suppliers to Brazil were China ($X), India ($X) and Saint Lucia ($X), with a combined 86% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Malaysia and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 14%.
France, with a CAGR of +40.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
Import Prices by Country
The average reclaimed rubber import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 19% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Saudi Arabia (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
