The United States (X tons), Uruguay (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the main destinations of paper bag exports from Brazil, with a combined 39% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Paraguay, Bolivia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Senegal, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Jamaica, Colombia and Venezuela, which together accounted for a further 47%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Costa Rica (with a CAGR of +49.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Argentina ($X) and Uruguay ($X) were the largest markets for paper bag exported from Brazil worldwide, with a combined 46% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Paraguay, Bolivia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Peru, Senegal, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Colombia and Venezuela, which together accounted for a further 41%.
Costa Rica, with a CAGR of +43.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average paper bag export price amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -1.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a perceptible descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 an increase of 4.3%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Argentina (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Brazil
In 2021, paper bag imports into Brazil surged to X tons, picking up by 51% on 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep setback. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, paper bag imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), China (X tons) and India (X tons) were the main suppliers of paper bag imports to Brazil, together comprising 68% of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for India (with a CAGR of +50.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sacks and bags of paper to Brazil, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China stood at +1.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (-0.6% per year) and the United States (+3.2% per year).

Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, paper bag import price increased by +67.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then fell slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the price for South Africa ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
