Argentina (X tons) was the main destination for sesame oil exports from Brazil, accounting for a 37% share of total exports. Moreover, sesame oil exports to Argentina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Panama (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Marshall Islands (X tons), with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Argentina totaled +6.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Panama (+148.3% per year) and Marshall Islands (+127.6% per year).
In value terms, Argentina ($X) remains the key foreign market for sesame oil exports from Brazil, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Australia ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by Panama, with a 5.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Argentina totaled +7.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Australia (+34.4% per year) and Panama (+175.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average sesame oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 96% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Marshall Islands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+76.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil
In 2021, the amount of sesame oil imported into Brazil declined to X tons, reducing by -5.2% against the year before. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 42%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sesame oil imports totaled $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Mexico (X tons), France (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of sesame oil imports to Brazil, with a combined 94% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Mexico (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X), Mexico ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest sesame oil suppliers to Brazil, with a combined 86% share of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +20.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
