In 2022, the amount of sparkling wine exported from Brazil stood at X litres, leveling off at 2021 figures. In general, exports posted strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 117% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, sparkling wine exports rose markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 127%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
The United States (X litres) was the main destination for sparkling wine exports from Brazil, accounting for a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, sparkling wine exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Paraguay (X litres), more than tenfold. Angola (X litres) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States totaled +19.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (+29.8% per year) and Angola (+54.7% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for sparkling wine exports from Brazil, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Paraguay ($X), with a 6.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Angola, with a 4.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled +14.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (+33.2% per year) and Angola (+58.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average sparkling wine export price stood at $X per litre in 2022, picking up by 9.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. The export price peaked at $X per litre in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Uruguay ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+86.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Brazil
In 2022, overseas purchases of sparkling wine increased by 22% to X litres, rising for the second year in a row after three years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +31.4% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 81%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X litres. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sparkling wine imports amounted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 47%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Spain (X litres), Argentina (X litres) and France (X litres) were the main suppliers of sparkling wine imports to Brazil, together comprising 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Chile and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Chile (with a CAGR of +9.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sparkling wine to Brazil, comprising 46% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Argentina, with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from France totaled -4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+3.5% per year) and Argentina (+0.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sparkling wine import price amounted to $X per litre, waning by -6.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per litre), while the price for Spain ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (-1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
