Imports into Brazil
In 2022, purchases abroad of stuffed pasta and couscous increased by 8% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, total imports indicated temperate growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +11.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when imports increased by 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, pasta and couscous imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +28.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Italy (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of pasta and couscous to Brazil, accounting for a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, pasta and couscous imports from Italy exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), threefold. China (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Italy stood at -1.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+211.1% per year) and China (+10.9% per year).
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of stuffed pasta and couscous to Brazil, comprising 37% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy totaled -1.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+209.0% per year) and South Korea (+24.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average pasta and couscous import price amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 2% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 15%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
