Argentina (X tons) was the main destination for sulphonamides exports from Brazil, accounting for a 69% share of total exports. Moreover, sulphonamides exports to Argentina exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uruguay (X tons), fourfold.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +75.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, sulphonamides imports reduced to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +62.1% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sulphonamides to Brazil, with a 65% share of total imports. Moreover, sulphonamides imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), twofold.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from China totaled -1.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+20.8% per year) and South Korea (-16.7% per year).
