Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.
In value terms, sulphur exports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 110% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Bolivia (X tons), Paraguay (X tons) and Argentina (X tons) were the main destinations of sulphur exports from Brazil, together comprising 88% of total exports. Chile and Peru lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +62.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Bolivia ($X), Paraguay ($X) and Argentina ($X) constituted the largest markets for sulphur exported from Brazil worldwide, together comprising 88% of total exports.
Bolivia, with a CAGR of +63.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average sulphur export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 71% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were Peru ($X per ton) and Bolivia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($X per ton) and Paraguay ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bolivia (+5.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sulphur Imports
Imports into Brazil
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of sulphur decreased by -52.4% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, sulphur imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
The United States (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the main suppliers of sulphur imports to Brazil, together accounting for 70% of total imports. Saudi Arabia, Canada, Turkmenistan, Kuwait and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 28%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Canada (with a CAGR of +36.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Russia ($X) appeared to be the largest sulphur suppliers to Brazil, together comprising 68% of total imports. Saudi Arabia, Canada, Turkmenistan, Kuwait and Qatar lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Turkmenistan, with a CAGR of +109.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average sulphur import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 373% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per ton), while the price for Qatar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkmenistan (+517.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
