Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, twine and cordage exports rose rapidly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 16%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
The United States (X tons) was the main destination for twine and cordage exports from Brazil, accounting for a 66% share of total exports. Moreover, twine and cordage exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Portugal (X tons), more than tenfold. Paraguay (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to -7.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Portugal (+52.6% per year) and Paraguay (-3.4% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for twine, cordage, rope and cables exports from Brazil, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Paraguay ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 4% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States amounted to -6.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Paraguay (-2.9% per year) and Portugal (+50.7% per year).

The average twine and cordage export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Imports into Brazil
In 2022, supplies from abroad of twine, cordage, rope and cables increased by 14% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Over the period under review, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +81.8% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 59% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.
In value terms, twine and cordage imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 61%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Portugal (X tons), China (X tons) and Bolivia (X tons) were the main suppliers of twine and cordage imports to Brazil, together comprising 72% of total imports. Paraguay, the United States, India and Israel lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Paraguay (with a CAGR of +258.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Bolivia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
