For the sixth year in a row, Brazil recorded growth in shipments abroad of vehicles not mechanically propelled, which increased by 79% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a significant increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, non-propelled vehicle exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Paraguay (X units) was the main destination for non-propelled vehicle exports from Brazil, with a 42% share of total exports. Moreover, non-propelled vehicle exports to Paraguay exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Uruguay (X units), threefold. Bolivia (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Paraguay amounted to +29.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Uruguay (+32.5% per year) and Bolivia (+34.6% per year).

In value terms, the largest markets for non-propelled vehicle exported from Brazil were Paraguay ($X), Argentina ($X) and Uruguay ($X), together accounting for 48% of total exports. These countries were followed by Chile, Bolivia, the United States, Peru, Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ecuador, which together accounted for a further 35%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Chile, with a CAGR of +26.9%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average non-propelled vehicle export price amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -33% against the previous year. In general, the export price faced a sharp downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 0.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Ecuador ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, the amount of vehicles not mechanically propelled imported into Brazil expanded modestly to X units, growing by 2% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 85% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, non-propelled vehicle imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a mild increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2015; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of non-propelled vehicle to Brazil, accounting for a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, non-propelled vehicle imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United States (X units), twofold. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China totaled +2.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United States (+1.2% per year) and South Korea (+4.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average non-propelled vehicle import price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 45% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, non-propelled vehicle import price increased by +116.8% against 2018 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
