In 2022, overseas purchases of vermouth decreased by -7.2% to X litres for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 276%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X litres in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, vermouth imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 301% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Argentina (X litres) constituted the largest vermouth supplier to Brazil, accounting for a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, vermouth imports from Argentina exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X litres), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by France (X litres), with a 17% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Argentina stood at +51.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Italy (+53.8% per year) and France (+39.3% per year).
