After six years of growth, purchases abroad of wadding of textile materials and articles thereof decreased by -27.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 48%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.
In value terms, textile wadding imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 58% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Paraguay (X tons), Mexico (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of textile wadding imports to Brazil, together accounting for 50% of total imports. Argentina, Chile, the United States, Turkey, Lithuania, Switzerland, Ukraine, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +173.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Argentina ($X), Mexico ($X) and China ($X) constituted the largest textile wadding suppliers to Brazil, with a combined 48% share of total imports. Paraguay, Lithuania, Ukraine, Chile, the United States, the Netherlands, Turkey, Switzerland, Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 45%.
Among the main suppliers, Lithuania, with a CAGR of +1,562.8%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average textile wadding import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, surging by 38% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +5.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the price for the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+24.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
