The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 105% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. Exports by Country
Paraguay (X litres) was the main destination for wine exports from Brazil, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, wine exports to Paraguay exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X litres), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Haiti (X litres), with a 7.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Paraguay stood at +37.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+14.0% per year) and Haiti (+224.4% per year).
In value terms, Paraguay ($X) remains the key foreign market for wine exports from Brazil, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Haiti, with a 6.8% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Paraguay totaled +36.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+12.3% per year) and Haiti (+189.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wine export price amounted to $X per litre, waning by -12.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 432% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per litre. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per litre), while the average price for exports to Uruguay ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+16.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Brazil
For the third year in a row, Brazil recorded growth in overseas purchases of wine, which increased by 5.2% to X litres in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 30%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
In value terms, wine imports totaled $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +53.3% against 2014 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 30% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Chile (X litres) constituted the largest supplier of wine to Brazil, with a 44% share of total imports. Moreover, wine imports from Chile exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Argentina (X litres), threefold. Portugal (X litres) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Chile totaled +9.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+6.6% per year) and Portugal (+11.5% per year).
In value terms, Chile ($X) constituted the largest supplier of wine to Brazil, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Argentina ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 16% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Chile stood at +8.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Argentina (+4.0% per year) and Portugal (+9.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average wine import price amounted to $X per litre, with an increase of 7.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a noticeable contraction. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per litre in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per litre), while the price for Uruguay ($X per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
