In 2021, shipments abroad of preservative-treated rough wood increased by 57% to X cubic meters, rising for the third year in a row after three years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a precipitous decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 652% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, preservative-treated rough wood exports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 974% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Kenya (X cubic meters), Haiti (X cubic meters) and India (X cubic meters) were the main destinations of preservative-treated rough wood exports from Brazil, together comprising 80% of total exports. Portugal, Malaysia and Uruguay lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Uruguay (with a CAGR of +44.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a mild reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 52%. The export price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2017, imports of preservative-treated rough wood into Brazil rose remarkably to X cubic meters, picking up by 14% against the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2017: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.2% over the last five years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2017 figures, imports increased by +77.8% against 2012 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2017 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
