Yams Market Size in Brazil

The United States (X tons) was the main destination for yams exports from Brazil, accounting for a 85% share of total exports. Moreover, yams exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (X tons), more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was held by the UK (X tons), with a 5.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to the United States amounted to +57.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+116.2% per year) and the UK (+84.7% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for yams exports from Brazil, comprising 84% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the Netherlands ($X), with an 8.6% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the United States amounted to +55.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (+122.9% per year) and the UK (+77.7% per year).

The average yams export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 4.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a mild contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. In 2022, imports of yams into Brazil skyrocketed to X kg, picking up by 42% against 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a pronounced decline. Imports peaked at X kg in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
