Asparagus Market Size in Bulgaria

From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Luxembourg (X tons) was the main destination for asparagus exports from Bulgaria, accounting for a 89% share of total exports. Moreover, asparagus exports to Luxembourg exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X kg), ninefold.

From 2019 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Luxembourg was relatively modest.

After eight years of growth, supplies from abroad of asparagus decreased by -19.5% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 150%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, asparagus imports shrank markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by 93% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then fell significantly in the following year.

Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of asparagus imports to Bulgaria, together comprising 86% of total imports.
