The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 145%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, crispbread exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 235%. The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Greece (X tons) was the main destination for crispbread exports from Bulgaria, with a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, crispbread exports to Greece exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Cyprus (X tons), with a 6.4% share.

In value terms, Greece ($X), Germany ($X) and Cyprus ($X) constituted the largest markets for crispbread exported from Bulgaria worldwide, with a combined 88% share of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, which accounted for a further 6.5%.
Among the main countries of destination, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +276.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Cyprus ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Bulgaria
In 2021, supplies from abroad of crispbread decreased by -24.1% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 38%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crispbread imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 52% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of crispbread imports to Bulgaria, with a combined 77% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic and Greece, which together accounted for a further 20%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +14.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest crispbread suppliers to Bulgaria were Italy ($X), Germany ($X) and Lithuania ($X), together accounting for 72% of total imports. The Netherlands, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.

In general, import price indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, crispbread import price increased by +29.7% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 38%. The import price peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Poland ($X per ton), while the price for Lithuania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+17.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
