In 2021, after six years of decline, there was significant growth in the Bulgarian industrial diamond market, when its value increased by 14% to $X. In general, consumption posted perceptible growth. In value terms, industrial diamond exports skyrocketed to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a sharp decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 68% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2019, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Italy (X kg) was the main destination for industrial diamond exports from Bulgaria, accounting for a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by Greece (X kg), with a 2.2% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Greece (0.0% per year) and the Netherlands (-70.4% per year).

In value terms, Greece ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for industrial diamond exports from Bulgaria, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($X), with a 26% share of total exports.

In 2019, the average industrial diamond export price amounted to $X per kg, declining by -90.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a deep setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 26% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per kg, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Greece ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (-17.9%).

Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 199%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, industrial diamond imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2019. In general, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 266%. Imports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2019, the UK (X tons) was the main industrial diamond supplier to Bulgaria, accounting for a 97% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium (X kg), with a 2.7% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of volume from the UK totaled +15.5%.

In value terms, the UK ($X) and Belgium ($X) were the largest industrial diamond suppliers to Bulgaria.
