The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 20%. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Slovenia (X tons) was the main destination for toy exports from Bulgaria, with a 37% share of total exports. Moreover, toy exports to Slovenia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tons), threefold. Poland (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Slovenia amounted to +19.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-6.7% per year) and Poland (-2.6% per year).
In value terms, Slovenia ($X) remains the key foreign market for dolls and toys exports from Bulgaria, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($X), with a 9.9% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 9.1% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Slovenia amounted to +24.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (-1.6% per year) and Germany (-5.3% per year).

The average toy export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 3.3% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average export price increased by 20%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (+14.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bulgaria
In 2021, the amount of dolls and toys imported into Bulgaria totaled X tons, picking up by 8.1% compared with the previous year. In general, imports posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 18%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, toy imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 24% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Greece (X tons), China (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of toy imports to Bulgaria, together accounting for 86% of total imports. Germany and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 5.1%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +18.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Greece ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest toy suppliers to Bulgaria, together accounting for 75% of total imports. Germany and Romania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 6.9%.
