In value terms, Romania ($X) remains the key foreign market for frozen potatoes exports from Bulgaria, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Greece ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.6% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Romania amounted to +22.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Greece (-2.3% per year) and Germany (+75.5% per year).

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of frozen potatoes, when their volume increased by 44% to X tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Poland (X tons) were the main suppliers of frozen potato imports to Bulgaria, with a combined 77% share of total imports. The Netherlands, France and Greece lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
