In 2022, the Bulgarian graphic papers market increased by 67% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, graphic papers exports fell sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 159%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Romania (X tons), Greece (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main destinations of graphic papers exports from Bulgaria, together comprising 79% of total exports. Albania, North Macedonia, Poland, France and Montenegro lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 14%.

Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, graphic papers imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +93.5% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, Spain (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of graphic papers to Bulgaria, with a 25% share of total imports. Moreover, graphic papers imports from Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Slovakia (X tons), twofold. Germany (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 11% share.
