Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fruit-preparation industrial machinery exports fell notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 131% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Switzerland (X units), Uzbekistan (X units) and Iran (X units) were the main destinations of fruit-preparation industrial machinery exports from Bulgaria, together comprising 75% of total exports. These countries were followed by Greece, Azerbaijan, Spain, Lebanon, North Macedonia and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 22%.

For the third consecutive year, Bulgaria recorded decline in supplies from abroad of industrial machinery for the preparation of fruits, nuts or vegetables, which decreased by -15.1% to X units in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 298% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fruit-preparation industrial machinery imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 128%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of fruit-preparation industrial machinery to Bulgaria, with a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, fruit-preparation industrial machinery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Italy (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Turkey (X units), with an 8.5% share.

The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Sweden, with a 9.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Italy totaled +6.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Turkey (+23.8% per year) and Sweden (+59.2% per year).

In 2021, the average fruit-preparation industrial machinery import price amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 64% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 69%. The import price peaked at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
