After two years of growth, the Bulgarian industrial robot market decreased by -56.7% to $X in 2021. In general, consumption, however, saw a strong expansion. Industrial robot consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In 2021, industrial robot exports from Bulgaria skyrocketed to X units, rising by 104% compared with 2020. Overall, exports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 575%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, industrial robot exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports enjoyed significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 208% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Turkey (X units) was the main destination for industrial robot exports from Bulgaria, accounting for a 60% share of total exports. Moreover, industrial robot exports to Turkey exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Slovenia (X units), with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Turkey stood at +103.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Italy (+49.8% per year) and Slovenia (+40.4% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X), China ($X) and Italy ($X) constituted the largest markets for industrial robot exported from Bulgaria worldwide, together accounting for 75% of total exports. These countries were followed by Singapore, Turkey, Slovenia and Greece, which together accounted for a further 22%.

Singapore, with a CAGR of +126.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average industrial robot export price amounted to $X per unit, reducing by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a abrupt curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Bulgaria

For the third year in a row, Bulgaria recorded growth in overseas purchases of industrial robots for multiple uses, which increased by 13% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 94%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, industrial robot imports shrank sharply to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 143%. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Germany (X units), Turkey (X units) and Austria (X units) were the main suppliers of industrial robot imports to Bulgaria, with a combined 59% share of total imports. The Netherlands, Italy, Slovenia and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Slovenia (with a CAGR of +67.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Austria ($X), Germany ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest industrial robot suppliers to Bulgaria, with a combined 48% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Turkey, Italy, China and Slovenia, which together accounted for a further 29%.

In 2021, the average industrial robot import price amounted to $X per unit, waning by -27.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the price for Turkey ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Greece (+29.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
