The exports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, nonwoven fabric exports declined notably to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 47% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.
Exports by Country
Italy (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Greece (X tons) were the main destinations of nonwoven fabric exports from Bulgaria, with a combined 47% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, France, Turkey, Serbia, Hungary, Belgium, North Macedonia, Albania, Slovenia and Ukraine, which together accounted for a further 40%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Ukraine (with a CAGR of +74.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for nonwoven fabric exported from Bulgaria were Germany ($X), Italy ($X) and Greece ($X), with a combined 49% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Romania, France, Belgium, North Macedonia, Hungary, Turkey, Albania, Serbia, Ukraine and Slovenia, which together accounted for a further 37%.

In 2022, the average nonwoven fabric export price amounted to $X per ton, reducing by -7.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 18%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was North Macedonia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Bulgaria
Nonwoven fabric imports into Bulgaria fell to X tons in 2022, waning by -7.8% on the year before. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -14.9% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. In 2022, Turkey (X tons) constituted the largest nonwoven fabric supplier to Bulgaria, with a 39% share of total imports. Moreover, nonwoven fabric imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Greece (X tons), threefold. In value terms, the largest nonwoven fabric suppliers to Bulgaria were Turkey ($X), Germany ($X) and Israel ($X), with a combined 48% share of total imports. China, Greece, Italy, Poland, Finland, Romania, France and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 40%.
Poland, with a CAGR of +27.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average nonwoven fabric import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 5.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 13% against the previous year.
