In general, exports recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when exports increased by 111%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X cubic meters in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.
In value terms, oxygen exports soared to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a resilient expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Greece (X cubic meters) was the main destination for oxygen exports from Bulgaria, accounting for a 76% share of total exports. Moreover, oxygen exports to Greece exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Romania (X cubic meters), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by North Macedonia (X cubic meters), with a 4.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Greece stood at +6.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+15.5% per year) and North Macedonia (+16.2% per year).
In value terms, Greece ($X) remains the key foreign market for oxygen exports from Bulgaria, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Romania ($X), with a 6.9% share of total exports. It was followed by North Macedonia, with a 4.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Greece totaled +15.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+20.6% per year) and North Macedonia (+27.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the average oxygen export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 60% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a resilient expansion. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Serbia ($X per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Serbia (+10.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bulgaria
After four years of growth, supplies from abroad of oxygen decreased by -30.8% to X cubic meters in 2022. In general, imports, however, posted a tangible increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 55% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X cubic meters in 2021, and then dropped sharply in the following year.
In value terms, oxygen imports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 83%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then shrank significantly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Romania (X cubic meters) and Serbia (X cubic meters) were the main suppliers of oxygen imports to Bulgaria.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Romania (with a CAGR of +4.8%).
In value terms, the largest oxygen suppliers to Bulgaria were Romania ($X) and Serbia ($X).
Among the main suppliers, Romania, with a CAGR of +7.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average oxygen import price amounted to $X per cubic meter, with an increase of 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 22% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per cubic meter), while the price for Serbia amounted to $X per cubic meter.
