Platinum Market Size in Bulgaria

In 2021, the Bulgarian platinum market increased by 42% to $X, rising for the third consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable setback. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Portugal (X tons), the Czech Republic (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of platinum exports from Bulgaria, together comprising 85% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Portugal (with a CAGR of +46.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Czech Republic ($X), Portugal ($X) and Italy ($X) were the largest markets for platinum exported from Bulgaria worldwide, with a combined 96% share of total exports.

From 2018 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+67.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Bulgaria

For the third year in a row, Bulgaria recorded growth in overseas purchases of platinum, which increased by 467% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, platinum imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when imports increased by 143%. Imports peaked in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of platinum to Bulgaria, accounting for a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, platinum imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Japan (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Greece (X kg), with a 0.5% share.
